Who can I contact about the Psychology Society?

I would suggest getting in touch with the Psychology Department Chair. I'm sure he can answer your questions or direct you to the appropriate person!

My other life

So when I am not rockin' the social networks at St. Mike's, I am being an event coordinator at the Burlington City Arts Firehouse Gallery on Church St.

And tonight the world's collide as one of my SMC co-workers hosts an event!

Is there only one religious studies course that can fulfill the LSR or are there more interesting options?

We expect that there will be three 100 level courses that can fulfill the new Liberal Studies Curriculum requirement. Two have been approved: Varieties of Christianity, Christianity Past and Present and one is still waiting approval, Catholic Christianity.

With the changes to the current LSR model taking effect next year, students will no longer need to take 2 Religion and 2 Philosophy courses. Instead they will need to take 3 courses between the two departments.

I should add that in the Religious Studies department, the 200 level classes are still Christianity based but the 300 level courses are all on religions other than Christianity - like Buddhism or Judaism.

Religious Studies is one of the most popular minors on campus, because students have already taken 2 courses and only need 4 more to fulfill the minor. We find many students are interested in exploring other religions or looking at different aspects of the Christian tradition.

Here is a link to the Religious Studies site, so you can learn more: http://www.smcvt.edu/academics/relstudies/

In high school? Have questions about SMC?

Can you talk a bit about the opportunities for summer research; how do students go about getting a grant and what are some examples of the research students have conducted?

I'm working on getting you this answer, sorry for the delay.

In high school? Have questions about SMC?

Can one course fulfill more than one requirement? Is there a limit on how many requirements it can fulfill?

A course can "double-dip" and fulfill two requirements. For example, you may be a History major and need a history course for your Liberal Studies Curriculum. One of your 100-level courses will satisfy both requirements.

You can double-dip more than once. However, a single course would not fulfill three requirements.

What are some alternatives for students who want to participate in something like mock trial?

We do not have a specific organization for mock debate, but we do have a lot of extracurricular activities and academic programs that might be of interest to you - including our Student Association (student government), College Conservatives and College Democrats as well as our pre-law major and Political Science Department. I think you'll find that students are very tuned into national and international issues and there is a lot of very spirited debate on campus!

Hope this helps!
